ROONEY BACKS SUAREZ
Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate Wayne Rooney has stated that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is up there with the Real Madrid star in terms of being the best player in the world. The Premier league once again witnessed a tremendous performance from Suarez, as the Uruguay striker helped Liverpool beat Manchester United on their own patch on Sunday. He scored the final goal in the 3-0 win over United. Rooney admitted after the match that it was very painful to see Liverpool winning at Old Trafford, but he was full of praise for Suarez, who is leading the charge to win the Golden Boot award this season.
The 26-year-old has already scored 25 goals in the league and only the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo can boast of a similar record this campaign. The Real Madrid superstar has also the same number of goals, but he has helped his team go top of the table. Suarez is yet to achieve it, but he has received a lot of credit for the way he has transformed the Liverpool into a title chasing team. His exploits in front of goal and the incredible partnership with Daniel Sturridge have already helped Liverpool score 76 goals in the league, while United have got just 46 during the same period.
“Suarez, for me, is up there with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the best players in the world. He has been that good and the two of them together have been in great form this season. We will have to do everything we can to stop them on Sunday. I think they are both fantastic players and obviously it is good to see Sturridge doing well because he has never really had a chance at his previous clubs,” said Rooney ahead of the meeting between the two clubs on Sunday.
