The Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has said that would not be celebrating any goals scores against Manchester United in the upcoming Champions League tie between the two clubs. Real Madrid and Manchester United have been paired against each other in the last 16 stage of the competition for the first time since 2003. Both these giants of European football played one of the most thrilling encounters back in 2003, as the Spanish club edged out Manchester United 6-5 on aggregate after both legs to progress to the semi-final stage. This time around, this fixture has been made even spicier due to the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese striker was hugely successful during his six years at Manchester United. The 27-year-old became one of the best players in the world when he was a Manchester United player, which eventually led to a world record £ 80 million move to Real Madrid. He has since his move said only good things about the club and now he will be returning to Old Trafford for the first time since his move. Only a few weeks ago, he played in Manchester for the first time since leaving Old Trafford when Real Madrid played against Manchester city.
Ronaldo has said that he will not celebrate if he scores against Manchester United due to the fact that he respects the club and its fans a lot. “I won’t celebrate if I score. It is thanks to Manchester United that I play for Real Madrid. Without them, I wouldn’t be the player I am today. I still speak with [United manager] Sir Alex Ferguson. I miss him a lot, and I miss Manchester United. I felt very good there, it was like a family. I had six great years there and am still friends with my team-mates,” said Ronaldo.

Real Madrid has defeated Granada by 3-0 in a La Liga encounter played at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid. The Madrid team demolished Granada in the match. The Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored 2 goals for Madrid, but, surprisingly, he didn’t celebrate any of those goals. In the post match press conference, he said that he is upset about something and that’s why he decided not to celebrate those goals. However, Ronaldo made it clear that his sadness should not be linked with the money that he is getting from the club. The money is not the issue, it’s something else that has made him upset.
Ronaldo started the match for Madrid and looked in sublime touch right from the 1st minute. He scored the first goal for his team in the 26th minute. Callejon passed the ball to Ronaldo who was at an awkward angle from the net. It was not easy to put the ball into the goal post from that angle. But, Ronaldo did it expertly. He played a brilliant left footed shot and took his team ahead in the match. There was so much power in the shot that the Granada goalkeeper, Tono, couldn’t do much. The Granada defenders didn’t let Madrid double the lead in the first half.
Ronaldo doubled the lead of his team in the 53rd minute of the match. Di Maria set up the goal for Ronaldo who deflected the ball towards the goal post, but, Tono blocked his shot brilliantly. However, the Granada goalkeeper wasn’t able to prevent the goal as the Portuguese superstar latched on the rebound to find the net. That was the 150th goal of Ronaldo for Madrid. Gonzalo Higuain gave Granada the third blow in the 76th minute by capitalizing on the opportunity created by Karim Benzema. The Granada team didn’t manage to find the net in the remaining time and lost the match. Madrid will play its next match against Sevilla.

Portuguese legend Luis Figo has said that Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has the capability of being a worthy winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or award this season should he received one. The 27-year-old has been spoken of as one of the contenders for the award due to the fact that he scored more than 50 goals in all competitions for both club and country last season. It would have been enough to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award in any other season, but due to the fact that Lionel Messi managed to overcome his achievement by getting 73 goals means that it is not all over for the Argentine.
Yet, the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo has not only won the league title with his club team Real Madrid, but also the fact that he has been able to get the Portuguese national team into the semifinals of the competition make him a worthy winner of this award. FIFA Ballon d’Or award is a major award given to an exceptional athlete during a season. Luis Figo is one of the few Portuguese players who have lifted this award, with Cristiano Ronaldo being another. However, it has been many seasons since the former Manchester United star lifted this award.
“Ronaldo matches all the criteria to win the Ballon d’Or for everything he did last season, but these choices are always subjective, because some 100 people will vote. However, it is clear that Ronaldo had a wonderful season,” Figo told reporters. After being granted an extended holiday pay the manager José Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo will be joining the rest of his teammates in the pre-season tour of the United States. Lionel Messi has won the coveted Ballon d’Or award for the last three times in succession and it would be historic if he receives his fourth this season.
